Volunteer Support Opportunities in the local community
Richmond AID - Telephone Befriending, Shopping, Prescription Collections
Local disability organisation, Richmond AID are seeking up to 50 volunteers to support their telephone befriending service and help with shopping and prescription collections and deliveries. They are especially keen to hear from people in the Teddington, Hampton and Twickenham areas where there is particular demand currently. All potential volunteers will need to go through their application process and provide proof of identity. A DBS check may be required if you do not have current validation.
Ruils - Telephone Befriending, Shopping, Prescription Collections
Ruils is looking for local volunteers across the borough who can offer to a weekly commitment. They are a local charity that provides information, advice and support to disabled children and adults and people living with long term health and mental health conditions. They have extended their service and are speed recruiting new volunteer telephone befrienders, shoppers and prescription collectors/deliverers. FareShare - Food Collection and Distribution to Support Local Food Banks
New roles are likely to be coming on stream as food banks nationwide have been awarded significant grants through thecampaign, which is a partnership between ASDA, the Trussell Trust and FareShare.
British Red Cross - Community Reserve Volunteers
If you are aged over 18 years, you can be on standby for emergency mobilisation to help your local community get back on track. No specialist skills are required and quick training is provided at the point you are called on. Find out more and
If the above are not right for you, or you find that they are full, please do be patient. The situation continues to change day by day and the needs and supporting opportunities will continue to respond and develop.
In the meantime, basic supplies will still be required and you can donate a range of items at local collection points during the week - in Twickenham, the in Barnes, in Teddington and in Twickenham.
Please also consider the huge drop in income for all charities, as their usual activities and events have been halted. Many of them operate on a shoestring to fill gaps in vital services that may have been taken for granted. If there's a cause close to your heart, your financial donation, however large or small, will never have been needed more than now.
