Ready to design your best Life? We talk to Pernille Spiers-Lopez, the woman who knows how...

It’s becoming quite the trend to take back the ownership of our lives. We don’t want to be controlled by bad or old habits or a job situation that doesn’t suit us anymore. We don’t want to feel trapped by expectations that don’t align with our own dreams and passions. The concept of “Designing Your Life” is becoming a “thing” and more and more people are intrigued and feel empowered by the idea of becoming life designers.

At the forefront of this movement is Pernille Spiers-Lopez, author of the book Design your Life, founder of Good Life Designed, business woman and former president of IKEA America.

She is walking the talk and living by the mantra:

“Don’t spend your whole life searching for the right job - make it the most job to design the right life.”

After 30 years in the corporate world, Pernille started consciously designing her life. By writing her own story and publishing “Design Your Life” she gained new insight and clarity about herself and motivation to make some big changes. After 21 years at IKEA she left with no plan B.

She discovered like herself – most people have a vision for the perfect kitchen, but no vision for their life – and that very few people have access to the wealth of tools she had been privileged to at IKEA. The support system and tools had helped her navigate her life, develop her leadership, connect with her core values and now writing her next chapter with intent.  By sharing a simple process and the necessary tools, no-one has to wait to turn 53 to know their values, know who they are, create a personal vision and design their best life.

“When I first published Design Your Life three years ago, we had to explain: it’s not an interior design manual. Today most people get the idea what it means to be designing your life, they are intrigued by it and feel empowered. I am both happy and humbled by the concept taking hold and more motivated than ever to making the process accessible to as many as possible and I am very excited to be sharing this at Bhuti, “ says Pernille Spiers-Lopez, based in Long Beach, California.

At the core of the philosophy is the idea that everyone can take personal responsibility and assemble their best life. Based on her personal story and amazing career as an international business leader, the book and her method challenges you to take leadership in all aspects of life, to own the change you want to be in the world while navigating the everyday infrastructure of the modern-day life. She provides tools and the proper insight that can help you achieve your dreams, know yourself and what you want, and get in touch with your personal values.

“Designing your life is not a selfish solo show, but being happy, energised and grounded is a foundation for doing good. When we as individuals are in a good place, we can be more for others and contribute to the world around us. “

Coming from a corporate career, having battled as a woman in a man’s world and passionately tried to do if differently, she has a very natural appeal to others with a corporate career. But it’s important to emphasise that this method is useful for anyone prepared to do the work. Lots of readers and life designers over the years have been inspired by the down to earth, no nonsense approach and method to take control over their own life.

“Whilst I truly believe everyone can design their best life, I am not just talking about privileged people, who can afford to quit their job and travel around the world to live in harmony with their values. I am NOT saying that we all have equal opportunities or can control what life throws at us. But we can choose how we respond,” Pernille explains and continues to be amazed to meet people who despite all kinds of adversities take ownership of designing their best life.

Some of the life designers, who have followed the Design Your Life online course, read the book or been mentored by Pernille are featured on the company’s blog Notes from a Life Designer that can be found here.

If you are going to read just one, pick the one about Amy Rouas, Head of Industry Sales at Google and a woman, who didn’t quit her job or moved to another country, but simply reconnected with a more confident and adventurous side of herself and got a new position in her company. Amy is a great example of how consciously working with these tools and finding your core values can make big changes in the way your view your life and yourself.

We are delighted to welcome Pernille to bhuti to share her story and toolbox on the 6th and 7th October. The first evening is a talk where she shares her tools learned in the corporate world to design your life and create a holistic sense of success for yourself. She will challenge you to take charge instead of making excuses. In return, she will share how you can become a life designer making conscious choices and real changes. The workshop Saturday the 6th October focuses on one of her six powerful lessons, getting to know your core values and use them as a compass to live life to the fullest.

Are you ready to start designing your life? Book your space Friday and / or Saturday here and get started this weekend.
